About the opportunity

The Health and Clinical Analytics (HCA) team designs and coordinates a broad and growing portfolio of practice-changing trials and other clinical studies. This dynamic and cross-disciplinary team takes pride in its reputation for delivering innovative research of the highest standard. They work to support a growing network of clinicians, researchers and community members with a shared motive to improve health through novel approaches to clinical research backed by cutting-edge analytics.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Operations Manager to help the HCA team achieve its mission to reshape the future of clinical research. Working alongside the Director of the HCA team, you will help to drive the team’s strategic development, planning, and overall coordination and management of this highly expert and multi-disciplinary team.

The HCA team sit within the Sydney School of Public Health, a leader in a number of research areas including health policy, health promotion and prevention of disease and disabilities, among others. Our internationally-recognized researchers are motivated by the need to improve health globally and have interests that embrace the ethical, social, economic and environmental causes of health.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • contribute to project development, including the provision of support to grant applications and budgeting, identification of alternative and new funding sources and the development and maintenance of relationships with funding organisations and key staff. This may include federal and state health departments, national and international philanthropic organisations, and funding agencies etc
  • contribute to research and organisational planning for the Health and Clinical Analytics team.
  • promote and contribute to a highly productive, collaborative, and rewarding work environment
  • design and implement systems and processes to ensure the operational activities of the team are carried out efficiently and to the highest standard
  • partner with Financial Services to manage the team’s annual and long-term budgeting process, providing guidance and direction to the Director in expenditure and budget management
  • provide overall general management of the team including effective planning, delegating, coordinating, staffing, organising, and supporting the Director with decision making to ensure research, financial and operational objectives and goals are reached
  • line supervision of a team and provision of assistance to Director with over 20 clinical research projects and an overall team of 30 people across multiple locations. Partner with HR to provide management and leadership to guide and support staff in workforce planning, hiring, performance management and other HR issues, and facilitate close and effective working relationships and practices with University HR staff.

About you

  • excellent understanding of the clinical research, academic and the healthcare sectors
  • demonstrated effective management of a diverse group of key stakeholders on the design and delivery of large and complex projects, and the ability to cultivate productive relationships with key users.
  • proven management experience; together with flexibility, capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and environments and, when necessary, navigating through ambiguity
  • financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure for projects
  • demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues
  • experience working in a collaborative leadership environment
  • strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills together with effective leadership and people management skills
  • postgraduate qualifications with relevant experience in operations management, business administration or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
